NATO Phoenetic Alphabet
The NATO Phonetic Alphabet also known as the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet is a useful to know set of code words for clear communication of the letters of the Roman Alphabet.
Since many of the letters of the alphabet sound similar phonetically for example, B (bee), C (see) and D (dee) they can be easily misheard or confused over phone or radio. Furthermore while using non standarized code words can work, these often run the risk of being misunderstood as well for example B as in Bear could be confused with C as in Care or D as in Dare when heard over the phone.
The NATO phonetic alphabet was strategically constructed to utilize code words that are easily distinguishable for their given letter and relay the proper information concisely, accurately and in a standardized manner.
