How To Snap Your Fingers (Learn in One Day)

If you can’t snap your fingers what may help other than following the below steps is understanding what mechanically is making the snapping sound. Although it may seem like it at first glance, the finger “snap” sound isn’t caused by the friction between the thumb and middle finger but rather the sudden impact of the middle finger onto the fleshy part of the palm the instant after the two fingers slide past each other.

Essentially the thumb is just supporting the middle finger and the downward pressure and as it slides out of the way it releases and the middle finger quickly moves down and strikes the palm at the base of the thumb. Hopefully this helps in troubleshooting.

Steps

  1. Pinch together your thumb and middle finger.
  2. Rest your ring and pinky finger on the fleshy part of your palm at the base of the thumb.
  3. Press together your thumb and middle finger tip with a medium amount of pressure.
  4. While maintaining the pressure slide your thumb and middle finger tips against each other until they slip apart.
  5. Snap.
  6. If you are struggling to get a loud SNAP understand that the snap sound isn’t caused by the friction between the thumb and middle finger but rather the sudden impact of the middle finger onto the fleshy part of the palm/ ring finger resting there. So try adjusting your ring and pinky are resting on the fleshy part of the palm where the thumb attaches as opposed to the middle of the palm and that the middle finger is moving downward not sideways when performing the snapping motion.
